MCPON Visits the Naval Academy

Yesterday, the Naval Academy was honored to welcome Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy MCPON (SS/SW) Rick D. West to the Yard, and USNA Band bassoonist and band historian, MUCM David Hanner was chosen to lead him on a guided tour. They were accompanied by a group of outstanding sailors from the Naval Academy and Naval Station Annapolis, including USNA Band’s 2011 Senior Sailor of the Year, MUC Amy Jarjoura. The tour included the Naval Academy Chapel, John Paul Jones Crypt, Tecumseh Court, Memorial Hall, and, of course, the Charles A. Zimmerman bandstand.

The final stop of the tour was at the USNA Band's spaces in Bancroft Hall. The MCPON, a Georgia native, enjoyed a performance by Electric Brigade of the 1979 Southern Rock tune, Train Train, by Blackfoot...
